Alamo Drafthouse and the Denver Actors Fund have partnered for a new monthly series to satisfy film and and theater buffs alike.
Catch Lindsey Falduto as Veronica Sawyer at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on February 14 or in Ignite Theatre's production of Heathers at the Aurora Fox Arts Theatre from February 26 to March 20.
For some, Valentine's Day will always mean romantic candlelit dinners. For others, a night of black comedy at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is more appealing.
Thanks to a partnership between the local cinema and the Denver Actors Fund , both film buffs and theater fans alike can spend this Saturday enjoying a full evening dedicated to the cult classic Mean Girls predecessor, Heathers . Performers from Ignite Theatre will showcase live excerpts from their musical production of Heathers as attendees enjoy a gourmet cafeteria meal of chicken potpie. Afterward, director Michael Lehmann will introduce a screening of the 1988 film and answer questions from the audience.
"This is for a strict movie-going audience, a strict theater audience, and everyone in between. Having both elements adds to the experience for all of them," says Alamo’s creative manager, Steve Bessette.
The event is also a chance to give back to the local art scene. Half of the show's proceeds benefit the Denver Actors Fund, an organization working to provide financial support for Mile High actors in medical emergencies.
If you've already got plans on February 14, stay tuned for upcoming collaborative events . On March 14, the Alamo and DAF are teaming up with Performance Now Theatre Company for a live show and screening of Ragtime, followed by Sweeney Todd with actors from the Denver Center for Performing Arts on April 18.
