Top Doctors

Coloradans may be fit, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're healthy. We take a look at the state's most pressing health matters—and introduce Denver's 257 Top Docs in 68 important medical specialties.

Our 2008 list of Denver's best docs will be available online beginning October 31.

Coloradans think they’re a pretty healthy lot. And why not? According to organizations such as the Trust for America’s Health, CalorieLab, the American Public Health Foundation, and the United Health Foundation, Colorado ranks at or near the top when it comes to a lean, fit populace.

Unfortunately fitness doesn’t always equate to healthiness. In fact, a closer look reveals that Coloradans are behind the curve in more than one category. Prostate, breast, and melanoma cancer rates are high. Heart disease kills more than 6,000 Coloradans annually. Our incidence of low birth-weight babies is lousy. Mental health issues abound. We visit the orthopod a bit too often. And, surprisingly, our kids may not be following in our fitness-frenzied footsteps. All of which is to say that we have some work to do.

The Listings

Each listing includes the physician's name, the number of times he or she has been on the Top Docs list in the past (if applicable), the hospitals at which the physician has priviledges, the doctor's office address, and the best phone number for a patient to call for an appointment. We also note if a doc is not currently accepting new patients.
