Dentist Last Name
Dr. Jennifer Garza is a different type of orthodontist. “I treat coming from a model of health rather than a model of pathology,” she says. “I’ve studied people up to 113 years old who have never needed an orthodontist, and only needed a dentist for cleanings and check ups. I wanted to find out what made these people so lucky that they were able to keep their natural teeth for a lifetime. Since then, when I do have to help someone, I want to emulate this studied model of health, what holds up over the test of time.” As a result of these in-depth studies, Dr. Garza understands that the mouth is the first part of the digestive system. She says, “If the mouth isn’t doing IT’S job properly, then the rest of the digestive system has to do more work. We’ve seen children and adults alike where the physician is faced with a patient having digestive problems but all of their diagnostic tests come out normal. They were not trained to look in the mouth and assess the chewing function. They do their best with what they have and sometimes medications are the only answer in their toolbox of treatments. Once we get their chewing system working properly, often times we can get to a point where patients don’t have to rely on medications for digestive health.” Orthodontics can help with increasing self-esteem with a beautiful smile; Dr. Garza just sees it as a bonus that it can help in so many other areas as well.
