Rumors are buzzing around the newspaper industry that Denver Post owner Dean Singleton is set to acquire the News, though not the one you're probably thinking.

One scenario suggests Knight Ridder would turn over the [Detroit] Free Press to Gannett Co. Inc., which owns the [Detroit] News. Gannett, in turn, would transfer the News to MediaNews Group, the Denver-based chain that owns The Denver Post and Oakland Tribune.
