Since 1983, Anchor Center for Blind Children has been serving children from birth to age five who have serious visual impairments.
Anchor Center is the only organization of its kind in Colorado and has prepared hundreds of children for kindergarten, while infusing a desire to explore life fully, despite their visual impairments.
Highly specialized Teachers of the Visually Impaired team up with Physical, Occupational, Speech/Language, Recreation, Horticulture and Music Therapists, as well as Ophthalmologists and Orientation & Mobility Specialists, to give the children hands-on experiences that stimulate their development, curiosity, education and independence.
As a family-centered nonprofit, Anchor Center provides families with emotional support, connections to resources and, most importantly, facilitates family-to-family/peer-to-peer connections.
Anchor Center operates in a state-of-the-art facility uniquely designed as a teaching tool in and of itself. The classrooms, art room, braille literacy room, gym and gardens are designed specifically for children who are blind, deaf/blind and who have mobility challenges.
Anchor Center for Blind Children is nearly fully funded by private donations and grants—and children are never turned away due to inability to pay. Your gift will help change the lives of children with visual impairments, empowering them and their families to expect nothing less than everything for the future.
“Anchor Center changed our lives forever. It is our community, our support, and a home away from home. It is a place where the dignity and potential of every child is respected.” –Erin; Mom of Anchor Center student, Patrick
