Denver Post restaurant critic Kyle Wagner this week listed her Top 10 restaurants in Denver.
"Best" is such a value-laden term. I tend to think in terms of where do I most like to go to eat? Mel's and Vesta Dipping Grill definitely rank at the top of my list, but so do Barolo and Avenue Grill. I ate at Aix on 17th Avenue for the first time... MORE

Trading wine for tortillas...Last week we reported that revered sommelier Chris Farnum was leaving the grape biz (his last day at Adega is Feb. 26 and he'll finish up at Mirepoix in March). He's off to Chipotle, where he'll be director of operations for the monster burrito's Midwest division. Farnum's charge is to double Chipotle's number of... MORE

Going, going, gone -- word is Chris Farnum, the revered sommelier for Denver Group (Adega, Mirepoix, Table 6) might be hanging up his tasting glasses. It'll be interesting to see the shakeout at Adega and Mirepoix -- both of which place huge emphasis on their wine programs. At Mirepoix over the weekend, there wasn't a sommelier to be found at... Whoever said there is no such thing as a free lunch obviously didn't have friends in the restaurant industry.
Strings is offering free appetizers from the winter menu for those who are willing to head down on Friday between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 pm. to help break in the new set of bar stools. (Any excuse for a party, eh?)
Chef Amy Vitale is... MORE

I think I'm on an official Greek bender. And, no, I'm not talking about frat houses and beer bongs.
It's the food. I'm really on a roll lately, mainly because of the impossible cravings for the Greek salad at My Big Fat Greek Cafe, a mom... MORE

I am seriously heartbroken about this.
We all have our favorite local hangouts -- you know the sort. The place you like so much that you really don't want the word to get out, because deep down, you're a selfish bii-atch and don't want a bunch of idiot wankers showing up at your cool secret spot.
I'm pretty sure that's the exact reason that... MORE

There are some things you just have to see to appreciate, and a drag queen brunch is absolutely one of them.

It's the beginning of a new year. I, like a gazillion others out there, am on my annual January binge diet, watching my intake of carbs, calories, fat, sugar, and basically anything else that's good to eat.
But already my willpower is weakening. The celery is looking bland, I'm craving chocolate constantly, and today I drove past Heidi's... MORE

A reader asks if any Denver restaurants will be open on Christmas Day. I know of two: Tamayo on Larimer Square and the Wellshire Inn (though the latter is already fully booked -- you might try calling closer to the big day to see if there've been any cancellations).
Anyone know any others? Use the Comments link to post them for all to see. MORE

It may be time to lay off the raw bar. State health officials are warning Colorado citizens of the dangers of eating raw oysters after one person died and nine others were sickened by the bacterium vibrio.
"It's concerning because it's a severe illness. People who are at high risk should not eat raw oysters," Alicia Cronquist, an epidemiologist... MORE

Mel's Bar in Cherry Creek North has been closed since Monday morning, when a fire in the building at 235 Fillmore St. caused extensive damage to the popular eatery.
The blaze originated inside the neighboring Madeline's on Fillmore salon, and though the salon was destroyed by the fire, firefighters were able to contain the flames. But the... MORE

Mezcal officially celebrated its first anniversary last night, but the party continues this weekend. Saturday night at 9 p.m., the kitschy-cool Colfax Avenue restaurant will be serving up complimentary Corzo margs, Cocojitos, hors d'oeuvres, and birthday cake.
And thought I'm never one to turn my nose up at a freebie, I recommend substituting... MORE

Looks like Luna's new star might have a little sputter. Nova Restaurant, serving "nouveau fondue with a modern twist," was scheduled to open tonight in the Luna Hotel, the newish European-style boutique hotel at 1612 Wazee that is also home to the trendy and chic Flow Lounge and the Velocity coffee shop (try their delish crepes for breakfast or a...
