Racers can compete in a selection of courses that include marathon, half marathon, cross country, or half cross country categories. The top three finishers cash in with the marathon champion pulling in $300.

Whoever said that kayaks only belong on rapids? Kayak down Monarch Mountain in the signature event that combines the water sport with a sledding twist. Kayakers race down a customized course of banks and hills before splashing into an icy pond. If getting soaking wet in the cold isn't your thing, come to cheer on the brave racers with a cup of cocoa in hand. Sat 10 a.m.
Any race that includes terrain consisting of a "giant pit of hot chocolate" is worth running. Copper's second annual obstacle course challenges racers to battle through ball pits, slip down icy slides, and tightrope over the aforementioned pool of cocoa.
Rock 'n' roll has never been so rewarding. Run to the groove set by a live band, the aptly-named Watertower, at this 5K along the Platte River in Littleton. Participants are encouraged to wear old band T-shirts (just in case you were looking for an excuse to wear that faded Guns N' Roses shirt you bought in the 80s).
Need more of a challenge while traversing those black diamonds? New Belgium Brewing Company is inviting Eldora skiiers a chance to double as detectives as they scan the mountain for clues. Teams of four will follow the trail for hints, ski after chickens, and even search for bigfoot. The after-party includes a tap of New Belgium drafts and prizes for top finishers.
Finally, a game they can't lose. The University of Colorado football team will conclude their spring practice schedule with the annual intrasquad scrimmage. It's a chance to get a first look at new head coach Mike McIntyre, who inherits a football team that went 1-11 in 2012.
