When Telly Topakas opened Axios Estiatorio in September of 2011, it was an immediate hit. The Greek restaurant wowed diners with its extensive Mediterranean wine list and modern Greek fare, including seasonal fish plates and divine pastitsio. It was such a favorite, in fact, that it nabbed multiple editors’ and readers’ choice wins in 5280’s annual Top of the Town over its six-year tenure.

But just this week, Axios went dark. This sign is currently posted to the front door:

Axios isn’t the only Greek restaurant in Denver to shutter this year: Authentic Greek Cuisine, a casual spot on Broadway, closed in the spring. We have reached out to Topakas for comment and will let you know should we learn more.
