casey-conorThe Colorado Rapids’ Conor Casey played up the drama last night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, earning a 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes in the final minutes of the game. Casey (pictured) is generally the saving grace in these situations and was able to punch in his Major League Soccer-leading 15th goal.

MLSnet reports this marks the second time in six days Casey made a late penalty kick to tie the Earthquakes. There wasn’t a natural goal in the entire game. The Earthquakes’ point also came off a penalty kick after the Rapids’ Pat Noonan was called for a handball near the goal.

The win leaves the Rapids tied with Seattle for third place in the Western Conference and sixth in the MLS, with 38 points. Every point the team can get going forward is crucial. The top two teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs, as well as the next four teams with the highest point totals.
