Denver International Airport busted a passenger traffic record for April by reporting major gains among its most popular carriers. The Denver Post reports DIA had 4,161,815 passengers—up roughly 130,000 passengers from the same time a year earlier. Mail, freight, and express cargo also increased nearly 10 percent, compared to April 2013.

Some of the most significant passenger gains were with the airport’s largest carriers. Delta Airlines and Southwest Airlines saw 7.7 percent and 7.3 percent bumps, respectively. Frontier Airlines had a 5 percent increase, while American Airlines was up 4.1 percent from the same month a year earlier.

DIA’s increase is in stark contrast to Colorado Springs Airport, which has seen its passenger numbers consistently decline. A flight from the Springs to Washington, D.C., was cut in in May, which added a wrinkle to previous efforts to encourage folks in the Springs-Pueblo region to use the nearby airport.

Bonus: Does this story seem familiar? It should, because DIA saw record traffic last month as well. Read about it—and the rising construction costs—here.
