Just in case you have a slot available in your social calendar this weekend among the holiday madness, there are two brand new nightlife destinations scheduled to open on Friday. And conveniently enough, they are both on opposite ends of the metro area, so one or the other is likely to be close to your particular ‘hood. Thursday night I’ll be heading to the preview opening of The Robusto Room at 9535 Park Meadows Drive, a wine bar, jazz club, and cigar lounge (the cigar room is separate from the main areas) that is located next door to the Rio Grande restaurant location just south of the Park Meadows mall. The space was formerly a part of the old Avelon nightclub, and should be a great addition to the area. Look for plenty of wines by the glass, small plates and desserts, and live jazz, blues, and DJs throughout the week. It sounds classy, like a great spot for an evening out, and I can’t wait to have a look at it. On the north side, the old Pink-E’s pool hall and rock club at 6080 E. 92nd (92nd and Harlan) is now a thing of the past, after 18 years in operation. In its place, the Zodiac Room opens this Friday with an all-DJ lineup of different sounds and styles. Fridays heat up with salsa music, dance lessons, and south-of-the-border drink specials, and Saturday the grand opening weekend continues with a ladies-night dance party ranging from ’80s to modern indie rock. The weekly lineup also includes a Tuesday Top 40 and R&B night, Wednesday house music, and indie rock and retro grooves on Thursdays with the Denver 3 of Lipgloss fame. I’ll be hitting the Zodiac Room next week sometime, and I hear through the grapevine that yet another dance club is on the way very soon — look for news on Blue Creek in the DTC closer to their scheduled New Year’s Eve opening.
