When Backcountry Provisions opened its LoDo outpost a block from 5280‘s digs almost two weeks ago, the staff rejoiced. The promise of hearty, stacked sandwiches had us anxious to try the menu board.

A dozen lunches later, we’re officially hooked. The rustic, mountain-y space (obviously inspired by the original location in Steamboat Springs) dishes up inspired combos, such as the Bushwhacker (curry chicken salad with almonds, apples, smoked Gouda, and romaine) and the Summit (smoked ham, Brie, honey-cured bacon, cranberry chutney, romaine, and chipotle mayo). The friendly, laid-back service is a refreshing plus.

Before ordering, check out the daily specials board located to the left of the cash register. Last week we were tempted by a sandwich of capocollo, tapenade, roasted red peppers, pepperoncinis, provolone, and garlic mayo.
