If you’ve never been to Vietnam, it’s difficult to truly understand the rich, fragrant flavors of the country’s cuisine. Suffice it to say that everything—the pho, the lemon grass chicken, the shrimp egg rolls—is exquisite. We love it all so much that we’re willing to venture up and down Federal Boulevard to find just the right dishes. During one of these journeys, we happened upon Vietnam Grill in a compact strip plaza just north of West Mississippi Avenue.

This pho palace has a rich family history and even richer bowls of steamy, fragrant broth. 1002 S. Federal Blvd., 303-936-3322; the Streets at SouthGlenn, 6879 S. Vine St., Ste. 714, Centennial, 303-797-9535; www.pho95noodlehouse.com
We’ve long been trawling the pho circuit in Denver, but we craved something less expensive than the high-end joints and less dive-y than the almost-too-fast pho places. Which is why we were ecstatic when Pho-natic opened on Colfax Avenue last summer. The space is sunny, the service is speedy, and the bill is palatable. Order the spring rolls, a bowl of steaming pho, and a slow-drip Vietnamese coffee. We are unabashed regulars. 229 E.
