Top of the Town 2011
Dive Bar
We’re suckers for any place that promotes Colorado-made libations, and the 52-year-old Star Bar (whose revamp last spring introduced a slightly cleaned-up image) in the burgeoning Ballpark area has it all: six rotating tap handles (including rare offerings, like New Belgium’s sour ale, La Folie) and a selection of pretty much every canned beer produced in the state. That’s not to mention the local spirits like Leopold Bros. and Stranahans, beer cocktails, and a B.Y.O.F. (yes, bring your own food) policy. So grab a pie at Marco’s Coal-Fired Pizzeria next door before hunkering down in a booth to watch the game. 2137 Larimer St., 720-328-2420, www.starbardenver.com
It has everything you need in a watering hole: jukebox, cheap beers, pool table, holiday hours, and more than 60 years of loyal patrons, all of which contribute to the appealingly weathered vibe. 723 E. Sixth Ave., www.donsclubtavern.com
