Mobile apps seem to come and go every day, but a three-and-a-half-year-old Colorado company has secured a foothold and a stash of staying power. Founded by Drs. Peter Hudson and Wayne Guerra in 2009, iTriage is a free downloadable app that helps you navigate the always-tricky (and often frustrating) health-care system. The app helps users answer two common medical questions—What’s wrong? and Where should I go for treatment?—by offering emergency room wait times, searching medical offices and hospitals based on your phone’s location, and scrolling through thousands of symptoms and diseases. iTriage has done so well in the last year that it has been bought by health insurance giant Aetna (although current leadership will remain intact); it’s moving its offices to downtown digs at the corner of 15th and Wynkoop streets; and it’s more than doubled its workforce in less than six months. Not bad for a startup technology company run by two emergency room docs. itriagehealth.com
