Not many people can say they’ve done anything continuously since JFK was in office, but the Denver Post’s Joanne Ditmer is one of the few who can. Her columns have been reminding Denverites about the importance of preserving our cultural and environmental heritage since 1962, and this March marked her 50-year anniversary with the Post. As Dr. Seuss’ Lorax spoke for the trees, Joanne Ditmer speaks for our historic buildings and public parks. And in a state that’s grown and changed as much as ours has in the past half-century, there’s no voice more important than the one that fights to preserve our landmarks for posterity. Our hats are off to this lifetime proponent of old Colorado. denverpost.com/ditmer
