The story of Tennis seems more like a fairytale than a biography: Husband-and-wife duo Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore graduated from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008, sold their belongings, bought a 30-foot sailboat, and floated the Eastern seaboard for seven months. They had no intention of writing songs or recording a record, but they were so inspired by the trip they couldn’t help themselves. The tunes they created post-sail became their debut indie pop album, Cape Dory. The duo is back this year with its sophomore record, Young & Old, which was produced by The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney and released in February. And although they didn’t have fresh memories of a sailing trip to aid this effort, the songs are just as beautiful.
