Politician We Love
Only a few years into his political career, Mike Johnston has been named one of Time magazine’s “40 Under 40” and one of Forbes magazine’s seven most influential educator picks. We’re happy to say Johnston—who represents Northeast Denver and was the founding principal of Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts—deserves the positive attention. The Democrat was the brain behind Senate Bill 10-191, which has been heralded as an innovative way to evaluate teacher effectiveness. More recently, Johnston impressed us with his Senate Bill 12-109, which aimed to close a loophole in Colorado’s voter registration system that keeps “inactive” voters from being mailed a ballot. mikejohnston.org
