Authorities are warning the elderly about a new group of scam artists that are working the Denver area. It seems to be the season for it…the con men are like a traveling band of gypsies, and come late spring and summer, like Miller moths, they arrive.

Prosecutors said these travelers prey on the elderly every year by befriending them and gaining their trust to gather personal information.

One of the scammers, who goes by the name Joshua Nichols, was just sentenced to 22 years in prison. Authorities aren’t sure that’s his real name becaused he used so many aliases. Just another sign that identity theft is all around us, and the elderly are particularly at risk.
