When we wrote last year about sick-and-dying workers at the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant being denied promised medical benefits, we heard from plenty of readers who were outraged by the government’s tactics. Now, finally, it looks like someone in authority is showing similar outrage.
Mark Udall is mad. He’s appalled. And he’s not alone.
The U.S. congressman from Colorado told members of the White House Advisory Board on Radiation and Worker Health Thursday that the way the federal government treats sick nuclear weapons workers and their families “speaks volumes about us as a society.”
“I’m appalled we continue to seem to find ways to stonewall them,” he said.
Of course, talk is cheap. Let’s see if Udall and any of the other lawmakers now showing an interest in the workers’ plight can actually get the Departments of Labor and Health to do something about their shameful actions.
