Bargain Bites: Boa on West 32nd

Over the weekend I discovered Boa on West 32nd, an Asian-Mexican comfort food restaurant in Highland’s Square. The spot opened about three weeks ago in the former home of Fuego’s (and, before that, D’Eggos). Though decor is sparse, the eats–choose from the West or East side of the menu–are fresh, delicious, and inexpensive.

Favorites include the cozy Korean Bibimbap (white rice topped with veggies, Sriracha, sliced meat, and an egg), stuffed sopaipilla with chile sauce, and comfy Malaysian Rendang (beef or chicken cooked with Malaysian spices, coconut, and pearl onions).

The generous entrées run $8.50 to $11.95–less at lunch–and come with two sides. Of those, the fideo, a Mexican vermicelli soup with green chile and tomato, was so tasty I can’t stop thinking about it. (The soup, plus an order of the crispy blue-corn taquitos, would make a fine lunch.) The Boa experience will only get better when the restaurant gets its liquor license, which is in the works.

Bonus: Pick up a take-out menu and find a 15 percent-off coupon tucked inside–use the discount before November 2.
