In June, the Dish Bistro at 20th and Grant streets switched gears and reopened as Jonesy’s EatBar. The refabbed spot, owned by Leigh Jones, capitalizes on one of the biggest trends in dining: the gastropub. Jonesy’s, and other gastropubs such as The Spotted Pig in Manhattan, are bustling public houses that serve restaurant-quality eats in addition to an extensive list of wine and beer.

When I visited Jonesy’s last week, it was indeed bustling with patrons. Over glasses of wine (half-off during happy hour), I looked on enviously as plates towering with food were whisked to other tables. Before long, the dishes–lamby joe sliders, a mixed green salad, oven-roasted chicken, and a split order of mac-and-cheese and buffalo fries–were coming my way. The sliders were decadent and cozy (and a holdover from the Dish), while the salad refreshed our palates in time for the herby, crisp-skinned chicken. The spuds, though, stole the show. Gooey cheese and bacon covered the mac-and-cheese fries, and blue cheese and Frank’s Hot Sauce doused the buffalo. It won’t be long before we’ll need another hit of those. Bonus: Stop by during happy hour (Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) for $5 specialty cocktails, and half-off wine, well cocktails, and select beers. 400 E 20th Ave., 303-863-7473 –AMF
