Luis Jimenez, the artist who created the big blue Mustang sculpture with the wild red eye that stands outside Denver International Airport, may be rolling in his grave right now. Denver realtor Rachel Hultin has launched a Facebook page declaring that “DIA’s Heinous Blue Mustang Has Got To Go.” The Rocky Mountain News reports that Hultin sees the 32-foot sculpture as somewhat “demonic.” It just doesn’t seem to be the best way to greet travelers, she says. So she’s launched a haiku-writing campaign to convince Mayor John Hickenlooper to move the horse elsewhere. Jimenez had a love-hate relationship with his work, which ultimately killed him. As 7News reported at the time, Jimenez was moving the sculpture with a hoist in his New Mexico studio in June of 2006 when it came loose, pinning him against a steel support.
