It appears that quarterback Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos will go their separate ways, reports ESPN, which writes that Cutler will not report to a team meeting today and that he has asked to be traded after a meeting Sunday with new head coach Josh McDaniels did not go well.

Speculation already surrounds where Cutler may go. (The Jets need a quarterback, as this New York Times blog notes.) It seemed Cutler was destined to leave by late last week, when The Denver Post reported that he was selling the lavish Parker home that he paid $1.34 million for in 2006 .

Team owner Pat Bowlen, meanwhile, told 9News yesterday that he’s “disappointed in the whole picture, not just disappointed that we might lose our star quarterback.”

The so-called McJaygate scandal began when McDaniels, New England’s former offensive coordinator, entertained the notion of trading Cutler to Tampa Bay in a deal that would have brought quarterback Matt Cassel from the Patriots to the Broncos.
