The Four Corners tourist spot in southwest Colorado–the only place in America where four state boundaries come together–is in the wrong place, according to the Deseret News, which reports that surveying errors from long ago left the site marking the intersection of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona 2.5 miles west of where it should be. The true location, according to a variety of global positioning estimates, would be to the east of U.S. Highway 160 in Colorado and northeast of the San Juan River as it flows into New Mexico. The original marker, erected in 1912, was a simple cement pad but is now granite and brass at a lively visitor center run by the Navajo Nation. The site was first surveyed by the government in 1868, but inaccurately, reports The Associated Press.
