The effort to recover the body of Boulder climber Micah Dash from China’s southern mountains saw many stops and starts by his closest friends and the Chinese government. Late last week, Chinese rescuers, citing dangerous avalanche conditions, decided Dash’s body would remain buried on the mountain. His friends continued looking but finally gave up on Friday night after a long search, according to the Colorado Daily. Dash, 32, was reported missing, along with Jonathan Copp of Boulder and Wade Johnson of Minnesota, after setting out in high altitude from a base camp at Mount Edgar, a Mount Gongga peak, in late May and never returning, according to The Associated Press. The bodies of Copp and Johnson were recovered.
