Text messaging, blogging, e-mailing, and tweeting are a rising a concern in Colorado’s courtrooms, and judges are starting to crack down by warning jurors that Twittering their thoughts can lead to a mistrial, writes 9News, which notes that even Colorado news reporters are facing the clampdown. Last month, a Denver judge banned text messaging, blogging, and tweeting from the upcoming trial of Willie Clark, who is accused of murdering Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams. Don’t text while driving either. As of December 1, if the police somehow are able to catch you sending a text or tweet using your cell phone, you can be slapped with a $50 fine thanks to a bill Governor Bill Ritter signed into law earlier this week–an effort to get drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, according to The Denver Post. Under House Bill 1094, drivers under 18 are barred from using cell phones at all, while drivers over 18 must use hands-free equipment with their mobile devices. Although it remains to be seen how police would interpret and enforce the new law, your best bet is to avoid being seen fiddling around with your phone while driving.
