Though news organizations everywhere recently predicted Crocs would soon be forgotten, the Niwot-based company hangs on. Despite $185 million in losses last year, mass layoffs, and even a Crocs auditor betting against the company, Crocs’ new chief executive, John Duerden, who ran Reebok International during its glory days in the 1990s, says he’s up to the challenge of returning Crocs to profitability. “[P]eople are obviously concerned in the company about whether there’s a future for Crocs. I clearly believe there is, because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have come here,” he tells Boulder’s Camera. Still, Crocs just can’t seem to get a break these days. A health expert questions the hygiene of kids wearing their Crocs in the pool while swimming, “one of the summer’s hottest trends,” writes The Chicago Tribune. And an even uglier shoe is now on the market, according to the International Business Times: Vibram FiveFinger shoes have “fingers” for each toe.
