1bWhen Alaskan transplant Peggy Gulam decided to open a green boutique in Denver, her focus was on the environment as well as fashion-forward apparel. The result is Chrysalis, the city’s newest eco-chic boutique, located in the revamped SouthGlenn Mall. The store is a strong mix of business attire, casual wear, and even special luxury items. The clothing combines beautiful fabrics—there’s organic cotton and bamboo in addition to modal, peace silk, and even milk and wood pulp fiber—with colors ranging from soft, muted neutrals to stunning brights. To assist customers in their purchases, Gulam has even designed novel labels that indicate which environmentally or socially conscious role each garment fulfills (eco-fabric, eco-manufacturing, sweatshop free, made in the USA, etc.). Lines include green favorites like Loomstate denim and Stewart + Brown, as well as lesser-known brands like Chemline, Sita, and Colorado Springs-founded Sust (pictured), with handbags, shoes, and jewelry to be added in the near future. So if you’re part of the fashion pack that still equates beige, hemp prairie dresses with environmentally conscious clothing, a visit to Chrysalis will give you an updated perspective. Currently at 6853 S. York St., Unit 124 and moving to 6851 S. Gaylord St., Ste. 254 beginning August 27, The Streets at SouthGlenn, 303-658-0056
