Denver snowboarder Alec Meyer must be extremely talented or very lucky—or both. After allegedly triggering an avalanche on Loveland Ridge, Meyer was able to literally “swim” his way around it, writes the Summit Daily News.

The report is unclear but claims Meyer rode the sliding snow nearly all the way to the bottom. When it began to flatten, Meyer started to sink and used a swimming motion to keep himself on top. In the end, he was only buried to his midsection.

His girlfriend, who witnessed the accident, skied down to free him at the Loveland Pass site near the Eisenhower Tunnel. Deputies called a Flight For Life helicopter and an ambulance, but they weren’t needed, notes 9News. Loveland Ski Patrol took a look at Meyer, but he only had a sore elbow and didn’t need treatment.
