A staple in downtown Littleton for the last decade, Abe’s Cafe is where I head when I’m in the mood for something sweet. The spot’s desserts—particularly the dreamy lemon Italian cream cake with lemon cream filling—are worth the drive.

Of course, you’ll want to eat something sensible beforehand, and the family-owned and -operated eatery delivers with satisfying, well-priced entrées. My standbys are the hearty club with spicy capicola ham and the tangy Mama’s chicken-lemon soup (it really is made by Mama).

Tip: About 18 months ago, Abe’s opened a second location in Lakewood and the menu is the same. Nonetheless, I prefer the Littleton location for its small-town charm and family-oriented service.
