When LuckyPie Pizza and Taphouse opened in the old Louisville post office at the beginning of August, it became an instant hit. And it’s no surprise, given that the eatery is run by Louisville resident Brendan McManus, who was general manager and co-owner of the Empire Lounge and Restaurant (he also used to work as the director of operations for Big Red F Restaurant Group). The spot hits all the right notes, with salads made of produce from Red Wagon Organic Farms; sandwiches; starters (don’t miss the charred corn-on-the-cob with white-truffle butter); and spot-on, brick-oven-baked pizza, such as the addictive, wild-mushroom white pie with cipollini onions, fresh arugula, and shaved Parmesan, finished with a touch of sea salt and truffle oil.

But don’t stop there. Farther down on the menu is one of the area’s best food finds: a perfectly roasted, crispy-skinned half-chicken—fresh from Wisdom’s Natural Poultry—that arrives with roasted seasonal vegetables like baby bok choy, earthy beets, fingerling potatoes, and tender sunchokes.

Bonus: LuckyPie also offers 21 craft and Belgian beers on tap, an interesting wine list, killer ice cream from neighboring Sweet Cow in some of their desserts (in flavors like oatmeal cookie and chocolate porter), and a spacious patio.
