Cutesy Internet company Cheezburger got down to business earlier this week, raking in $30 million from venture capitalists, including Boulder-based Foundry Group, reports the Denver Post. Cheezburger’s various websites draw 16.5 million visitors each month and generate a staggering 375 million pageviews. The latest influx of funds means loads more LOLcats, Fails, and other fun online distractions from the Seattle-based company, which will add 18 new positions to its staff of about 50.

The Foundry Group, which led the deal, is helmed by “venture capitalist and big man on campus” Brad Feld, who is among the various tech entrepreneurs building Boulder’s reputation as a start-up mecca, Kimbal Musk tells 5280’s Cheryl Meyers. Musk himself is an everything-he-touches-turns-to-gold kind of guy, with a hand in Boulder eco-bistro the Kitchen, as well as Compaq, PayPal, and electric roadster manufacturer Tesla Motors. All this buzz no doubt helped encourage David L. Ikenberry to join the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Leeds School of Business as a new dean. Ikenberry, who comes to CU from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will earn an annual salary of $425,000, according to the Daily Camera.
