Slap Shot is revered as one of the best hockey movies ever made. It highlighted the passion, fast-paced action, and on-ice violence that hockey fans live for. But a new movie, Goon (watch trailer, for mature audiences only), aims to take its spot. It stars Seann William Scott as a bouncer who’s given a spot on a minor league team—as a fighter. With writers Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg (Superbad) and Canadian director Michael Dowse (Fubar I and II) behind the camera, Goon has all the makings of a classic sports film.

Goon shows tomorrow (11:30 p.m., Denver FilmCenter/Colfax) as part of the Starz Denver Film Festival. In honor of the flick, we rounded up the top 10 best sports movies of all time, in no particular order:

Rudy
Brian’s Song

Bull Durham
Caddyshack
Rocky
Field of Dreams
Hoosiers
Hoop Dreams
Raging Bull
A League of Their Own

Honorable mentions:

Victory
The Natural
Murderball

And, the movies that didn’t make the cut, but we love ’em anyway:

Major League
White Men Can’t Jump
The Mighty Ducks
The Sandlot
Cool Runnings
Tin Cup
