Several weeks ago, I zipped past Weathervane Cafe on 17th Avenue. The six-week-old coffeeshop is tucked away on the north side of the street and I had to double back to find it. The location is slightly hidden but that makes finding it feel like a payoff.

Owners Lindsay and Alex Dalton—both career baristas—have put as much thought into Weathervane’s menu as they have the artsy, well conceived space. Corvus Coffee (from the excellent small-batch roaster on Broadway) anchors the drink menu and the eats include house-made samosa burritos (pictured). I like to order these for breakfast, but the wraps are savory and filling enough to pass for lunch. The Daltons warm the burritos in a panini press so the tortillas become golden, toasty envelopes filled with curried potatoes, peas, carrots, garbanzo beans, and onions.

Bonus: Always save room for (or purchase for later) a treat from Humble Pie.
