The Big Picture
Enlarged photographs will be pasted on approved outdoor surfaces (and a few indoors) around Denver—and other towns across the globe—allowing fine art to mingle with gritty city life. The goal: to connect people through instantly transferable imagery. Opens March 1

Lecture by Photographer Duane Michals
University of Denver alum and world-renowned photographer Duane Michals tells stories from his career, which spans more than 50 years. A self-proclaimed expressionist, Michals is known for sequential imagery, for photographing subjects in their own environments (as opposed to in a studio), and for his philosophical approach to his work. March 7, 7–8 p.m.; Denver Art Museum, 100 W. 14th Ave. Parkway, 720-865-5000, denverartmuseum.org

Time Capsule—A Photography Show
Time capsules are meant to preserve a moment in time. In this juried exhibition, photographers stop the clock to capture the here and now. March 7–24; Core New Art Space, 900 Santa Fe Drive, 303-297-8428, corenewartspace.com

The Reality of Fiction
Local photographer and MoP Denver founder Mark Sink curates an exhibition of more than 20 photographers who use imagery to comment on both fact and fiction. Some use humor (see Reiner Riedler’s contrived vacation images), while others evoke emotion from deceit (Rebecca Martinez photographs dolls in ways that make them appear to be actual newborns). Opens March 8; RedLine, 2350 Arapahoe St., 303-296-4448, redlineart.org

Meaning in Motion Project
Using a combination of cameras and HD video, Argentinian photographer Pablo Gimenez-Zapiola projects words and poems onto passing trains. One of Gimenez-Zapiola’s MoP projects will be a live demonstration of the process. March 9; location TBD

Lucas Foglia: A Natural Order
As a kid, San Francisco photographer Lucas Foglia and his family lived off their land, heating their house with wood and harvesting their food. By his teenage years, cars and computers had influenced the family’s life. Fueled by his own experiences, Foglia, now 30, went in search of others living off the grid. Opens March 10; MCA Denver, 1485 Delgany St., 303-298-7554, mcadenver.org

PHÖs: Light Today
This multidisciplinary exhibit showcases artists who are experimenting with new technology and styles. The theme is the use of light—both natural and artificial. Our pick: local artist Mario Zoots’ avant-garde digital collages. Through April 20; Colorado Photographic Arts Center, 445 S. Saulsbury St., Lakewood, 303-837-1341, cpacphoto.org
