Families raising a newborn in the Mile High City should plan to fork over $28,200 in their first year of parenthood—more than the cost of raising an infant in Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Chicago, or Houston. Denver is the 12th most expensive city to raise a newborn, according to a new report by the real estate company Redfin. In fact, four Colorado cities—Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Greeley—were among the top 40 most expensive cities for young ones. (Only California had more cities in the top 40.) The rankings were based on a combination of housing costs, childcare costs, healthcare expenses, the price of baby supplies, and energy costs. San Jose was the most expensive city to raise a baby at $41,600. Here, a look at the first-year cost of raising a newborn in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Greeley, according to the report.
