For 19th-century Colorado settlers, general stores were the place to shop. Nowadays fashion and home decor retailers have, to our delight, appropriated the concept of broad appeal. Our newest go-to is Cedar & Hyde Mercantile, which opened in Boulder last October. Sisters and owners Poss and Christie Lambert stock the warm, modern space with a thoughtful assortment of predominately American-made products, from skin- and hair-care line Malin + Goetz (C&H is the only store in Colorado to carry it) to luxe towels, candles, and tableware. When it comes to men’s and women’s clothing, C&H focuses on under-the-radar brands such as Pendleton Portland Collection outerwear, Imogene + Willie denim, Wings + Horns utility menswear from Canada, and eco-friendly womenswear by San Francisco darlings the Podolls. Now that’s what we call a general store for the modern West. 2015 10th St., Boulder, 720-287-3900, cedarandhyde.com
