If you’ve tooled around on a two-wheeler in Colorado, you already known that the state is one of the best places for cycling in the United States. Now, it looks like the rest of the country agrees: USA Today readers placed Fort Collins number two on the list of the country’s best cycling towns thanks, in large part, to its massive trail system and mountain bike opportunities. Said the newspaper:

“Fort Collins’ 310-mile network of paths and bike lanes, an innovative bike share program started back in 2008, and miles upon miles of mountain biking trails in the surrounding plains and mountains simply add to the appeal of this city, one of only four to hold the League of American Bicyclists platinum level ranking.”

Durango, long a cycling hotspot, placed number eight on the list. Davis, California, took first place.

Boulder landed outside the top 10, but is listed among finalist cities with communities such as Austin, Texas, Moab, Utah, and Portland. And with new trails popping up around Colorado all the time, it’s a safe bet to say the state will stay on lists like these.
