Colorado placed four areas on a list of top swimming cities nationwide, according to an analysis by the swim-gear company Speedo.

Fort Collins-Loveland, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Denver-Aurora rank numbers 6, 13, 15, and 24, respectively, on the top 50 list that was recently published. Ann Arbor, Michigan, is listed as the best.

On its list, Speedo says the Fort Collins area ranked highly in part because of its high number of “USA Swimming members, clubs, and top-performing swimmers relative to its population.” The fact Colorado has so many communities on the list should come as no surprise. Colorado Springs is home to USA Swimming and the U.S. Olympic Complex, and the Denver-metro area has some of the most well-regarded swim clubs in the country. And then there’s Missy Franklin, the Olympic darling from Centennial, whose impact on growing the sport statewide can’t be denied.
