Between jackets, pants, goggles, gloves, and helmets, getting outfitted for a day on the mountain can creep upwards of several hundred dollars. Those of us who live here year round might consider that an investment, but what about your family and friends visiting from, say, Texas?
This year, help visitors who aren’t prepared for the mountains save some bucks (and stay comfortable) with GetOutfitted. Launched last year, the Colorado Springs-based company rents winter gear to visitors who might not have everything they need to stay dry on the slopes (or those who maybe just prefer to pack light).
The full kit (pants, jacket, gloves, goggles) rents for $30 per day, which includes FedEx delivery to your door—whether that’s here in Denver or on the mountain. Premium brands such as Patagonia cost a little more. Since no one wants to wear someone else’s base layer or socks GetOutfitted doesn’t rent those, but it does sell them and will package the purchase with your rentals. Nearly 95 percent of the company’s rental stock is new—and you’ll even find accessories like GoPro cameras, which locals might enjoy for a day.
This year GetOutfitted has partnered with Black Tie Skis to add ski and snowboard rentals to its program at any of the 14 resorts Black Tie serves (among them Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, Copper, Aspen, Vail, and Winter Park). They’ll deliver rentals directly to the resort and fit out-of-towners in their rooms. All you have to worry about is getting them to the slopes.
