Oh, happy day! It’s National Pie Day, which means there’s no excuse not to enjoy a slice of caramel apple (Wednesday’s Pie), cherry (the Post Brewing Co.), or balsamic-blackberry pie (Devil’s Food). Or, order a whole pie and share the love around. If you choose the latter, we suggest picking up the whimsical Whoville Blueville pie (pictured) at Lucky’s Bakehouse & Creamery in Boulder.

To make this treat, pastry chef and co-owner Jen Bush fills a classic pâte brisée (butter-based) crust with layers of lemon curd and blueberry curd. Then she playfully tops the pie with swirled peaks of barely-blue blueberry meringue. Lucky’s also offers a toasted coconut cream option with white chocolate pastry cream and coconut shavings and a chocolate-almond chess pie with buckwheat-cinnamon crust. No preorders necessary; pies run $17.99 apiece.

Bonus: Not into pie in the conventional sense? Stop by the Inventing Room‘s doughnut pop-up for chef Ian Kleinman‘s wacky creations—including banana cream pie doughnuts with brown sugar–braised bananas, salted chocolate, and frozen pie crumbs. The pop-up runs through Sunday morning (6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) at Sunnyside Burger Bar, 3759 Lipan Street.
