Get Involved: Athena Project

A night of improv at Blush & Blu helps fund women in the arts.

Running a festival is a year-round affair. “You have to keep people talking,” says Angela Astle, founder and executive producer of Athena Project, a Denver organization that promotes the work of female artists. The conversation turns to money this month, as Athena Project kicks off an online fund-raising campaign that will culminate on July 27, when the nonprofit hosts an evening of competition between female improv groups at Blush & Blu in Capitol Hill (admission: $15). Proceeds will support Athena Project’s Girls’ Write program, during which sixth- through eighth-graders learn the theater trade from local pros, and Athena Project Arts Festival, a three-year-old multiday showcase in March that features the premiere of a women-authored play. The script calls for raising $10,000, but feel free to improvise and donate more.
