Kelly Liken is Back

The Colorado chef and restaurateur and her seasonal American cuisine return to the Vail area.

Mountain foodies went a little hungry after Top Chef alum and Iron Chef competitor Kelly Liken closed her decade-old Vail eatery, Restaurant Kelly Liken, last spring. But, much to our relief, The James Beard-nominated chef is back with Harvest By Kelly Liken.

The restaurant, which opens on June 21, sits inside the newly renovated Sonnenalp Club in Edwards. Large windows surround the elegant, farmhouse-inspired dining room and its central bar and lounge area with 180-degree views that look out toward Arrowhead Mountain, golf course greens, and sweeping Colorado skies.

“I am so excited to be creating a true neighborhood gathering place for the people of the Vail Valley,” Liken says. “Harvest by Kelly Liken will stay true to my sensibility in creating seasonal American cuisine, while maintaining a casual and inviting space for people to gather at an approachable price point.”

Whereas the menu at Restaurant Kelly Liken was broken down into course selections, Liken designed Harvest’s “elegant farmhouse” menu with sharing in mind, so sharing a table full of different tastes is encouraged. You’ll find dishes like smoked Rocky Mountain trout, “Colorado-niçoise” style, as well as a saag-like lamb dish with chickpea mash, pickled Fresno chile, and carrot salad. Tastes and colors of summer come together in simple, farm-driven combinations like heirloom tomatoes and watermelon with fresh mint, pickled red onions, arugula, and feta. Small plates and sharable snacks on the dinner menu will run from $5 to $14, and entrées will range from $22 to $30.

Liken’s love of seasonal flavors has always inspired her restaurants’ cocktail lists as well. Rick Colomitz, Liken’s husband and restaurant partner, will oversee the beverage program, which focuses on Colorado beers, spirits, and coffees. Harvest’s wine program will showcase Colorado wineries, as well as small production, family-owned wineries throughout the world.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, while the Pantry—its market and coffee bar—will offer juices, smoothies, java, breakfast options, baked goods, sandwiches, and salads throughout the day.


This summer, Harvest by Kelly Liken will be open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; the Pantry will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m..
