It’s officially fall! But with so many fashion trends to focus on, picking which new items to incorporate into your current wardrobe can be a style challenge. We cut straight to the chase by asking Denver-area store owners and managers to name their top picks for Fall 2017. Read on to find out what the pros think the best buys of the season are, and why you should consider updating your closet with them.
Our must-have item for Fall 2017 is anything velvet! Its luxurious texture makes it an easy material to dress up or down. Our favorite piece is our classic velvet blazer from Frame in spice ($575, also available in black). –Taylor Schopbach, Weekends, 1200 Pearl St., 303-444-4231, weekendsboulder.com
With fall and winter being big seasons in Denver, the idea of playing with the traditional sweater silhouette was one we really fell for during LA market. We love an exaggerated sleeve, like this classic bell version by Lush ($54). –Hailee Satterfield & Grace Buttorff, Hailee Grace, Larimer Square, 1421 Larimer St., 303-698-2323, haileegrace.com (Editor’s Tip: Can’t get to downtown Denver? You can now shop Hailee Grace online!)
This Derek Lam 10 Crosby blouse ($326) is at the top of our favorite list for fall, because its front ruffle detail adds a soft, feminine touch to the masculine plaid. We love that it can be worn two ways: With the strap buttoned across the neck, creating a unique choker effect, or unbuttoned for a V-neckline look. —Inna Jensen, Rebel, Cherry Hills Marketplace, 5910 S. University Blvd., 720-283-1004, facebook.com/shoprebel
I love the monochromatic dressing trend. This set by Xirena (twill blazer, $253, and pant, $175) is the perfect updated “suiting” look, but each piece still works well as a separate. The jacket adds a bit of polish to any denim piece, while the pant is super cute styled with an oversized cashmere sweater and a great pair of booties. —Casey Rosen, Blush, Larimer Square, 1411 Larimer St., 303-399-7779, shop-blush.com
Tart Collections’ Azaria satin bomber jacket ($185) is a cool take on one of fall’s hottest outerwear trends. The best part? It’s completely reversible! So the hardest part will be deciding which color to wear: Black or a rich forest green.—Allison Orr, Dragonfly, 3615 W. 32nd Ave., 303-433-6331, facebook.com/DragonflyApparel/
If you thought pearls were something only your grandmother would wear, think again; this season they’re the embellishment of choice, accenting everything from loafers (Gucci) to knitwear (Co). Which is why Perch owner Shannon Cave says this Rachel Zoe jumpsuit is a fall essential: “It’s a great black tie option instead of just wearing another version of an LBD. Plus, it’s super comfortable and has just the right amount of bling.”—Shannon Cave, Perch, 2606 E. 3rd Ave., 720-381-0290, perchvail.com
The Sol Sana Parker ivory mule ($180) is my shoe pick for fall. It’s an updated alternative to your everyday bootie and the white color is a fun seasonal twist.—Nicole Schnitzlein, Lady Jones, 4016 Tennyson St., 720-541-7646, ladyjonesdenver.com
Sarah Hendler’s 18-karat yellow gold and coral enamel earrings ($2,310) aren’t just the latest statement jewelry – they’re modern heirlooms. I love their exceptional craftsmanship and timeless style. Plus, they’re so versatile: Wear them in the daytime with a cashmere turtleneck and jeans for a chic urban look or let them add a little edge to a black satin slip dress for evening. However you decide to wear them, these earrings will turn heads!—Mary Leppert, Metalmark Fine Jewelry, 1600 Boulder St., 720-441-4635, metalmarkfinejewelry.com
I love the structure of the handle with the soft supple leather on these Eatable of Many Orders ladylike bags from Japan (starting at $525). Each one is made entirely by hand, including the carved wooden handles, by a husband and wife in their atelier. So special…they’re beyond trends!—Vanessa Barcus, Goldyn, 2040 W. 30th Ave., 720-489-0580, shopgoldyn.com
Colored legwear is a big trend this season, and these ombré tights by BZR ($38) are particularly cool; they’re made in America and hand-dyed in Seattle. The colors can dress up any fall outfit, plus they look equally great with boots and flats. I have them in five colors! —Rebecca Tischler, Studio Colfax, 2418 E. Colfax Ave., 720-328-4896, studiocolfax.com
The Jaci by Coclico ($415) is my go-to bootie this fall. The contemporary pointed toe and geometric heel provide strong lines that pair well with the most on-trend denim. This gorgeous silhouette also looks sexy when worn with a dress or skirt. —Laurel Tate, Two Sole Sisters, 1078 S. Gaylord St., 303-722-2887 & 1703 Pearl St., Boulder, 303-442-0404, twosolesisters.com
