If you’re a fan of modern home furnishings, you’re likely acquainted with CB2, Crate and Barrel’s sister store that’s known for hip designs at affordable prices (and opened a brick-and-mortar location in Cherry Creek North last summer). This spring, the retailer began rolling out a collection of one-of-a-kind vintage furnishings and accessories—hand-picked for each store in the United States and Canada by New York City–based interior designer and decorative and fine arts dealer Charlie Ferrer.
Ferrer and CB2 president Ryan Turf traveled to Europe to assemble the eclectic assortment—priced from $60–$11,500—that pairs perfectly with CB2’s modern aesthetic. Here, Turf shares his take on the collection—and what to look for in the Denver store.
5280 Home: What prompted you to add vintage décor to the CB2 offering?
Ryan Turf: At CB2, we’re all about the mix. We’re known for our unique take on design and timeless-yet-edgy collections. We love trends but don’t live by them; we’re more into that timeless cool factor. Every piece from the CB2 x FERRER collection is unique and will provide a source of authenticity that fits seamlessly into your current home decor.
Tell us about your decision to partner with Charlie Ferrer on this collection.
We’re passionate about collaborating with brands or people that inspire us. We knew that in order to offer a unique product, we needed to partner with someone who understood the hunt and is an expert in the field. Charlie was able to source and find authentic, vintage pieces from known designers that complement our current aesthetic—and that provide our customers with access to products they would have otherwise not found in our stores.
What can Denver shoppers expect to find at the Cherry Creek North store?
Each assortment is representative of the market in which it’s available, and every piece is a special, interior designer–selected treasure. The Denver collection channels a casual aesthetic that can translate easily to a mountain setting or an urban environment. I love the elegant utilitarian forms of [Danish designers Hans] Wegner and Finn Juhl.
Can you choose just one favorite?
The chrome-and-leather chaise lounge (pictured above) is my favorite piece of all. It’s sculptural, minimal, and comfortable—the perfect piece to go along with existing furniture and accessories. My favorite pieces from the Denver collection are the spherical wall sconces.
