Curtis Garage Party With Breckenridge Brewery | October 3
Two words: free beer. (Well, beer for a good cause and a donation if you so choose.) Kick off the Great American Beer Festival with this charity event featuring exclusive pours of Breckenridge Brewery beers, giant lawn games, and live rock music from Jonah Wisneski and The Band. Show your beer spirit and dress up in your proudest beer-themed costume to enter for a chance to win prizes like a VIP tour of Breckenridge Brewery, an overnight stay at the Curtis, or tickets to more GABF events. All donations will go toward Camp Southern Ground, a summer camp for kids of various ability levels and from all walks of life. 3–7 p.m., the Curtis, 1405 Curtis St.
Art Feast | October 5
The best of both worlds collide for the 5th annual Art Feast, a free walking tour of the Cherry Creek North art galleries completed with a host of tasty bites from local restaurants. Expand your palate in more ways than one with samplings, live demonstrations, musical performances, and a multitude of creative offerings from artists around town. Be sure not to miss the Vineyard Wine Shop’s complimentary wine tasting from 2–6 p.m. at the main tent, located on 2nd Avenue & Fillmore Street. Open House at Black American West Museum | October 5
The Black American West Museum & Heritage Center and Historic Denver are partnering to celebrate one of Denver’s most notable figures, Dr. Justina Ford, the Mile High City’s first licensed female African American doctor who practice out of her downtown medical office from 1911–1952 and is remembered for her personal efforts to fight discrimination within the medical field. In an attempt to win a national competition and secure funds to preserve the Dr. Justina Ford Home, the organizations are offering the open house event for Denverites to experience the rich history of her home in person, with everything from historical enactors, food trucks, and a special performance by the Spirituals Project choir. 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Black America West Museum, 3091 California St.
Zombie Crawl | October 5
Grab the fake blood and gear up for one of Denver’s eeriest traditions. Join the walking-dead parade through the heart of downtown, limp your way into the contest for best costume, and channel those half-dead dance moves with the giant Thriller dance. Tickets are also available for Ghoul’d Rush (starting at $30), the Zombie Crawl’s first ever contest for groups to compete in a set of challenges for a grand prize. The Music of Landscapes: Gritty & Pretty | October 6 and October 12
Explore the natural wonders of landscapes and music—and how those worlds can coexist—on this community hike brought to you by the Boulder Philharmonic and City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks. This guided musical hike through Shanahan Ridge with OSMP naturalist Dave Sutherland will feature samples of music to offer a first-hand lesson in how artists attempt to capture the essence of nature in their works. The Boulder Philharmonic will round out the experience, performing works by Jon Lord and Jonny Greenwood. Broadmoor Art Academy 100th Birthday Party | October 12
The Broadmoor Art Academy—created in 1919 by Broadmoor Hotel founders Spencer and Julie Penrose—turns a century this year. The academy, now called the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, was named one of the 25 best galleries in 2018 by American Art Awards, and a journey down memory lane was only fitting for this milestone. Manitou Springs’ 25th Emma Crawford Coffin Races & Festival | October 26
What better way to celebrate the dead than a high-speed coffin race down a 195-yard track through downtown Manitou Springs? Join in the fun at likely the most bizarre celebration of one of Manitou’s most notable historic citizens (and the peculiar circumstances of her death), at the nationally and locally buzzed-about festival.
