7 Free Things to Do This November

With COVID-19 restrictions on the rise once again, it's hard to find things to look forward to. Here are seven free virtual and in-person events to enjoy this month.

Virtual Day of the Dead Celebration | November 1
Take part in the culture-rich Mexican celebration of Día de Los Muertos without leaving your home. Starting at 2 p.m., the Longmont Museum will be live-streaming performances by singing trio Las Dahlias, Grupo Folklorico Mexico Lindo dance, mariachi bands, poetry by the bicultural community leader Laura Soto, and more. Catch the performances on Facebook, Longmont’s Public Media website, or the Local Comcast Channel 8/880. 

Denver Arts Week(end) | November 6–8

Indulge in Denver’s arts and culture through hundreds of virtual and in-person events—a lot of them free of charge— brought to you by Denver Arts & Venues. Walk down 14th Street to witness some of Denver’s oldest murals, or stroll through Olde Town Arvada during the monthly First Friday Art Walk for a chance to meet artists. Join Access Gallery in their annual fundraiser showcasing 99-plus pieces of art for sale, or tune into a live-streamed concert by the Stratus Chamber Orchestra.

Urban Holiday Market | November 7–8
Partake in some early holiday cheer as you window shop (or shop to buy) while enjoying live entertainment. The two-day event will feature selections of handcrafted goods, one-of-a-kind seasonal items, gift ideas, and delicious specialty foods made from local artists and crafters. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Skyline Park, 15th and Arapahoe Street

To Muse the Labyrinth | Through November 8

There’s still time to explore artist Autumn T. Thomas’ immersive sculpture installation at Platteforum. To Muse the Labyrinth is an installation focusing on themes of Afrofuturism, the Black Lives Matter movement and reclaiming identity. The safe space will allow attendees to wander amidst the sculptures made by Thomas and the ArtLab interns. Registration is required for in-person attendees, but a 3D walkthrough is also available if you cannot attend in person. 2400 Curtis St., Suite 100

The Trial of Susan B. Anthony | Through November 8
Commemorate the women’s suffrage movement through Opera Colorado’s retelling of the story of Susan B. Anthony, the trailblazer who played a pivotal role in gaining women the right to vote. The 30-minute show is written and composed by Steven Mark Kohn with opera singer Adriana Zabala playing the role of Anthony. Catch it on-demand through November 8. Access can be requested online.

CBCA’s 35th Anniversary MIXTAPE| November 19
The Colorado Business Committee for the Arts is celebrating its 35th anniversary of MIXTAPE celebrations with an ’80s-themed virtual dance party. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom as Denver-based motivational speaker Debbie Scheer emcees the rad program. Bonus: CBCA is giving away prizes for best dressed, so don your best ’80s gear and tune in for a fun night. Register online.

The Grand Illumination | November 27

Kick off the holiday season by witnessing the illumination of your favorite Denver landmarks, such as Union Station, the 16th Street Mall, Skyline Park, Larimer Square, and more. Additional events, activities, and restrictions will be announced closer to the date, but the city’s Grand Illumination will take place throughout downtown Denver from 5 to 7 p.m.
