Colorado Cocoa Pod Bonbons

Colorado Cocoa Pod chocolatier and owner Liane Pensack-Rinehart spends up to three days perfecting each batch of her artisan chocolates. And not only is each bonbon painted by hand, the exterior aesthetic provides a discreet hint at the luscious flavors waiting inside. The For Mom Bonbon Box (available in six-, 12-, and 24-piece packages) comes with red hearts filled with vanilla and dark chocolate ganache as well as gold bonbons stuffed with crunchy hazelnut praline. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to ovarian cancer research organizations in honor of Pensack-Rinehart’s mother, who passed away from the disease last year. Available at Denver’s Horseshoe Market on Saturday, May 8 or online; six-piece box for $18, 12-piece box for $35, and 24-piece box for $68

The Flour Shop Cookies

Craft cookie couriers Jennie and Sara not only make their cookies with love—they deliver them, too, if Mama lives in the Denver metro area (just give them 24-hour notice). The Flour Shop menu features the obligatory classic chocolate chip, while other flavors offer a spin on traditional fare like the Nutella-stuffed snickerdoodle and the red velvet cheesecake cookie. Our top choice: the lovely lemon lavender. No worries if Mom has a gluten allergy. The brown butter oatmeal chocolate chip, double peanut butter, and chai spice snickerdoodle all have a gluten-free option. Order online; the baked-to-order cookies range from $18 to $30 per dozen

Flick of the Whisk Cakes

Bryonna Williams, baker and owner of Flick of the Whisk, honed her craft by watching her mom in the kitchen. Today, she brings us cakes, cupcakes, and cookies that are equal parts work of art and decadent dessert. Not sure what to choose? Mom is sure to love the flower and cupcake package, which includes a bouquet from Lisa Carr at the Flower Shack along with four or six cupcakes. Or, opt for a Mini Mom Cake that includes three small vanilla cakes with vanilla buttercream filling. Order online; six-inch cakes start at $70, standard cupcakes start at $42 per dozen, flower and cupcake package starts at $54, and Mini Mom Cakes are $30

Berkeley Donuts

Start Mother’s Day with something sweet from Berkeley Donuts. Located inside the pizzeria and craft beer bar, Hops & Pie, Berkeley Donuts offers a wide range of flavors from old fashioned cake and honey-glazed sourdough to the sea salt caramel with black Hawaiian salt on chocolate cake. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, too. Call 24 hours in advance to skip the line. Order online or call 303-477-7000 for pickup (3920 Tennyson St.); doughnuts are about $2.50 each (Tip: Use their Sunday special for $5 off a dozen)

Sweet Cooie’s Ice Cream & Confectionary Treats

Named after owner Paul Tamburello’s intrepid mother who moved to Colorado alone back in 1947 (when that just wasn’t done), Sweet Cooie’s features a variety of ice cream yummies and hand-rolled truffles. This Mother’s Day, it’s offering a selection of truffles made by Toute Douceur Candy featuring fair-trade chocolate and all-natural ingredients. Moms also get 50 percent off ice cream scoops. Available in person (3506 12th Ave.); truffles are $2 and ice cream is $3.99 per scoop

Craft Spirits Coloring Book and Beer

Help Mom Zen out for a good cause with the RadCraft Industry Relief Coloring Book from local craft beverage experts like Durango’s Ska Brewing Co.  and Denver’s Laws Whiskey and Woods Boss Brewing Company, among others. All proceeds from the coloring book go to the James Beard Foundation Open for Good campaign, which is committed to helping independent restaurants survive COVID and beyond. We suggest pairing the art with a crowler of suds from a local woman-owned brewery such as Lady Justice Brewing Co., Holidaily Brewing Co., or Novel Strand Brewing Company. Download the coloring book on Issuu; $5.50 for the book, crowler prices vary
