Oysters may seem like special-occasion food, but really, the silky, oceanic morsels are reason enough to rejoice. In fact, several years ago, writer Bill Buford penned a New Yorker piece that precisely captured the bivalve’s ethereal appeal. Read it here and then head to Le Grand Bistro & Oyster Bar to partake in the restaurant’s first-annual Oyster Week Festival.
Through Sunday, October 21, fans can nab 75-cent oysters on the half-shell all day long, and try daily specials that include po-boys and (the somewhat irreverent) fried oyster nachos with hollandaise, wholegrain mustard, and fresh mozzarella. There’s also trivia (maybe Buford’s article will come in handy!) and prizes.
Give One Year of 5280 for just $16.
Bonus: At 5:30 p.m. each evening, chef Jeremy Thomas embarks on a shucking demo and an oyster history lesson.
